Distribution:
Malaysia, Philippines and Papua New Guinea.
General Description:
The rays have horizontal canals which exude sap which forms black blotches on the wood surface; these disappear when the wood is planed.
Color:
A rich vivid red, with variegated streaks.
Weight:
Varies from 670-990 kg/m3 (41-61 lb/ft3).

Seasoning:
Dries easily and well with little degrade. There is very small movement in service.
Working properties:
It works reasonably well with hand and machine tools, but has a blunting effect on tools which need to be kept sharpened. The interlocked grain may tear in planing unless a reduced cutting angle is used. It nails, screws, glues and takes stain and polish well. The sanding dust can cause irritation to the skin.
Durability:
Moderately durable, and resistant to preservation treatment.
